Why can only one person work on a report at a time?

We address this commonly raised question.

Whilst multiple users can be logged into the Releasd Control Panel simultaneously, only one person can edit a report at a time.

We wanted to explain why this is the case.

For context: there any many actions that can be taken in the Report Builder, including

  • Drag, drop and resize a new widget

  • Drag, drop and resize an existing widget

  • Open a widget

  • Add content to a widget

  • Edit content within a widget (coverage, analytics, text, images etc)

  • Delete content within a widget

  • Delete a widget

Allowing multiple users to edit a report at the same time inevitably leads to conflicts. To name just a few:

  • Multiple users rearranging widgets across a report at the same time

  • One user deletes coverage whilst another is editing it

  • Two users editing copy in the Text widget at the same time

  • Adding/deleting Brand Keywords in the Charts and Graphs widget simultaneously

There are many more potential issues that arise when allowing multiple users into the Builder.

These put the stability and integrity of the report at risk, whilst the users themselves are often left confused and a little frustrated.

Instead, if a user is in the Builder, a notice is shown that includes the name of the person currently editing it. Once that person has completed their work, the Builder will load.
