How Custom Domains Work

Last Updated: May 10, 2015 05:40PM BST

What Are Custom Domains?

All Releasd Pages are prefixed with releasd.com by default, for example: http://releasd.com/1234

Creating a custom domain will allow you to use your own, branded link when sharing pages, for example: http://something.mydomain.com/1234

Account-Level Domains

Every Page in an Account can be accessible via a custom domain, for example http://pages.mydomain.com/1234

You can have as many Account-Level custom domains as you like.

Brand-Level Domains

Every Page under a particular Brand can be accessible via a custom domain, for example http://reports.acmebrand.com/1234

You can have as many Brand-Level custom domains as you like.

Account & Brand Level Domains

If you created Account-Level and Brand-Level Domains, you would be able to use any of the following:

http://releasd.com/1234
Or
http://pages.mydomain.com/1234
Or
http://reports.acmebrand.com/1234

These would all link to the same Page. If a visitor entered a URL of a non-existent Page, they would see Releasd’s standard ‘Nothing to see here’ message.

Setup: Part 1

Let's say you wanted to use something.yourdomain.com. Firstly:
  • You'd need to own and have access to yourdomain.com
  • You'd need to pick a replacement for 'something' in something.yourdomain.com (e.g. showcase, insights, comms etc)

Note: you may need the assistance of your web-master for the below. It’s quick and easy, but only if you know how:
  • Log in to your web hosting service
  • Create the new subdomain
  • Add a new DNS record to that subdomain (CNAME)
  • Map it to releasd.com

Setup: Part 2

Once the above is in place, contact us to add the new domain to our system:
